Naomi and Ruth completed their arduous journey. Tired and sad, Naomi was recognized by the people of Bethlehem who noticed she was different. Naomi asked them to refer to her as Mara, meaning bitter. She was clearly greatly discouraged and distressed and not without good reason. Here husband and two sons had died. Ruth had accompanied her on the long journey back home and remained truly faithful to her.
